Kindergarten Curriculum

Religion-(We Believe, Sadlier)

Students are helped to realize that all of creation is a gift from God, who created all things out of his deep abiding love for us. Prayers learned during Kindergarten are the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be. The Mass is also taught including the four parts of the mass.

Reading/Language Arts- (McGraw-Hill, Wonders)

Students develop a love for reading through:

    1. Literature for thinking and learning; Phonological awareness

    2. Priority skills and prediction; Phonics and Decoding and word recognition

    3. Differentiated Instruction

    4. Reading support through leveled reading and literary elements

    5. Sentence structure; basic parts of speech

    6. Word Analysis, syllable patterns, root and base words, compound words

Math-(McGraw-Hill, My Math

Lessons are based on scientific research that focuses on effective learning, processes and instructional strategies that are essential for success in a wide range of learners. Counting and cardinality, operations and algebraic thinking, numbers and operations in base ten, measurement and data, and geometry are all math concepts taught throughout the year.

Social Living-(Scott Foresman, Here We Go)

Children learn how people are unique and relate to each other. The students will explore the who we are, communities, work, Our Earth, The USA and family stories from everyday stories to special family celebrations.

Science- (McGraw-Hill, A Closer Look)

Students learn about life, through the growth of plants and animals and stages of development of the human body. Students will also learn about the Earth and how it is covered by land and water. Physical science concepts taught about properties of objects and materials, position and motion of objects and forms of energy. Students will also begin the use of the scientific method of exploration and prediction.

Handwriting-(McGraw-Hill, Wonders)

Students begin letter formation as well as mastering the handling of pencil and crayons.
