PK4 Curriculum

Religion-(I Am Special-4 year olds)

Gives children a sense of God, teaches children about prayer and how to pray, helps young children develop a friendship with Jesus and helps children develop positive concepts about family, church, and school.  This series helps the children develop a positive appreciation for the world around them.


Language Arts

Students are encouraged to try out their developing early literacy and social skills with the assurance that their own knowledge and ideas are respected and valued.  Language Arts is taught as whole class, small group and individual learning experience to meet the child’s needs.  Introduction of letters of the alphabet; recognizes letters and sounds through manipulative, arts, music, literature, cooking and many other related activities.  Phonetics is encouraged as well as beginning reading skills and forming words. Students also complete activities using the Everyday Literacy book by Evan-Moor Corp. It focuses on reading and writing skills in preparation for Kindergarten. It correlates with the State Standards and includes early literacy skills such as: alphabet awareness, phonological awareness and comprehension skills.


Science/ Social Studies

Students participate in exploration that coincide with introduction of letters; introduction of holiday and related activities as well as good manners.  Maps are introduced as well as states of matter. Students also use Scholastic’s Let’s Find Out to enhance their weekly lessons.


Math

Students experience mathematical concept and skills daily through activities relating to language arts curriculum.  Numbers 0 to 20 are introduced and are used to understand the concepts of number order, more or less and beginning addition.


Art

Students explore a variety of mediums and tools to extend each child’s imagination.  Projects are related to language arts, holidays and fun.
